Jobing Description

Under the direction of the human resources director, the human resources benefits specialist has primary responsibility for the coordination of the company’s group benefit program, and assists with administration of day-to-day operations of HR functions.

  1. Oversees and administers all employee benefits programs.
  2. Is responsible for the process of employee benefit enrollments and terminations in its entirety.
  3. Serves as the primary contact for plan broker and vendors, and makes recommendations to management as appropriate.
  4. Keeps abreast of changing healthcare laws, and ensures complaince with applicable government laws and regulatory requirements.
  5. Provides customer service support to internal and external customers; determines proper course of action to resolve escalated customer service issues.
  6. Develops communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
  7. Develops and distributes materials for benefit orientations and open enrollment.
  8. Coordinates/conducts new hire benefits orientation.
  9. Manages process of employee PTO requests, and maintains employee time off calendar.
  10. Manages employee leave processes (FMLA, personal), and serves as liaison for employee and supervisor.
  11. Coordinates workers’ compensation claims and serves as liaison for employee, supervisor and insurance carrier.
  12. Responsible for maintenance and content of HR website bulletin board.
  13. Prepares and maintains electronic and paper employee benefit files.
  14. Assists with new hire orientation as needed.
  15. Collaborates with communications specialist on employee newsletter.
  16. Assists with special projects as needed.
  17. Cross-trains and assists with compliance, data management, and reception as needed.
  18. Maintains confidentiality of all employee information.

Skills / Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Human Resources preferred.
  2. Three to five years related benefits or employee benefit administration experience required.
  3. Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefit programs, including PPACA, ERISA, COBRA, FLMA, ADA, Section 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  4. Demonstrates excellent communication and organization skills.
  5. Demonstrates autonomy, assertiveness, flexibility and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
  6. Portrays a professional attitude.
